09.22.18 NE-CHI mass confrontation Edwards instigates 88min

The Chicago Fire have been found in violation of the Mass Confrontation Policy.  The Club will be issued a warning for their first violation.  Any additional violation(s) of the policy will result in a fine to the Club and a fine to the Head Coach.  Each violation thereafter will result in the doubling of the fine.

Due to their role in the mass confrontation, the following players have been identified for supplemental discipline:

  • Raheem Edwards (CHI) will be issued a fine for instigating and escalating a mass confrontation

09.22.18 MTL-NYC Piatti simulation-embellishment 11min

It is the Committee's unanimous decision that Ignacio Piatti is guilty of simulation/embellishment (second violation in the 2018 MLS Season (including MLS Playoffs)).  Mr. Piatti will be issued a fine for this action.

09.22.18 MIN-POR Boxall contact Ridgewell 57min

Although there will not be supplemental discipline issued at this time, Michael Boxall will be placed on ‘Official Warning’ for violent conduct for the remainder of the 2018 MLS Season (including MLS Playoffs).


Additional Policy Violations

09.23.18 LAG-SEA Kinnear Interacting with Match Officials at Halftime

LAG Head Coach, Dominic Kinnear, was observed violating the Interacting with Match Officials at Halftime Policy.  This is Coach Kinnear’s second violation, so he will be disciplined according to the 2018 Competition Manual fine schedule.

09.22.18 LAFC-SJ & ORL-HOU Pre-Match Roster Irregularity

SJ and HOU attempted to list a non-rostered/non-dressing player in the Bench Personnel section of the Official Match Roster.  According to the 2018 Competition Manual “Bench Personnel Policy”, non-rostered players CAN be listed under the Bench Personnel section and sit on the bench.  While there was confusion about this over the weekend, both PMEs reach out according to the PME protocol to confirm.  This policy will likely be revised in 2019.

09.20.18 SJ-ATL Video Board Replay Policy Violation 90min

SJ was observed in violation of the Video Board Replay Policy.  A replay of a penalty decision was shown on the video board prior to the restart of play. Pending investigation.

09.20.18 SJ-ATL Fan Conduct

SJ fans were observed throwing money at the Match Officials after the match while they exited the field.  Noted to MLS Security.

Profane chants directed at the referee and ATL were heard in the following minutes: 68:24, 72:00, 78:18, and 90+

09.20.18 SJ-ATL ATL Pre-Match Club Warm Up Period Policy

ATL was observed warming up with twenty-one (21) players in violation of the Pre-Match Club Warm Up Period Policy.  SJ has been warned against any future violation of the policy.

09.22.18 ORL-HOU Fan Conduct

ORL supporters were observed chanting profane and targeted insults at the opposing Club’s goalkeeper after goal kicks at the following times: 49:56, 61:18, 79:23, 85:21. Noted to MLS Security. 

09.22.18 MIN-POR Fan Conduct

After the match, as the Match Officials entered the tunnel, two MNUFC fans screamed obscenities and directed profane gestures toward them.  No security intervened.  Noted to MLS Security.

09.22.18 ATL-RSL Turf Issue

Match Officials identified “soft turf” along the touchline thirty-five (35) yards from goal at MBS.  Noted to MLS Operations.
