The Columbus Crew SC have been found in violation of the Mass Confrontation Policy.  The Club will be issued a warning for their first violation.  Any additional violation(s) of the policy will result in a fine  to the Club and a fine to the Head Coach.  Each violation thereafter will result in the doubling of the fine. 

The Orlando City SC have been found in violation of the Mass Confrontation Policy.  This is the second violation of the 2018 MLS Season for Orlando City SC.  Orlando City SC will be fined to the Club and the Head Coach will be issued an Official Warning for his first violation.  Each violation thereafter will result in the doubling of the fine. The Committee may also identify individual players involved, which can lead to supplemental discipline (e.g., suspensions and/or fines).

 

07.21.18 SEA-VAN Juarez RC VC 77min

The incident was reviewed under Disciplinary Committee Parameter #2:

Where the officials see an incident, and issue a red card, the Disciplinary Committee may review the play for further disciplinary action, over and above the mandatory suspension and fine.  Supplemental discipline (suspension and/or fine) will be administered if the Disciplinary Committee believes:

  • the offense is egregious in nature; and/or

  • it must act to protect player safety; and/or

  • it must protect the integrity of the game; and/or

  • the player is guilty of repeat behavior.

Efrain Juarez was issued a red card in the match on July 21, 2018 versus the Seattle Sounders FC.  Mr. Juarez will be issued a three (3) match suspension and a fine for exhibiting aggressive behavior toward a match official.  The breakdown of Mr. Juarez’s total suspension and fine for this incident is as follows:

  • In-Match Discipline

    • One (1) match suspension and a fine for the red card received in the match (2nd red card in 2018)

  • Supplemental Discipline

    • Suspended two (2) additional matches and fined an additional amount for exhibiting aggressive behavior toward a match official

  • Total Discipline

    • Three (3) match suspension and a fine

 

07.21.18 CLB-ORL Hansen contact head-neck-face Schuler 24min

It is the Committee’s unanimous decision that Niko Hansen has been found in violation of the League's policy regarding Hands to the Face/Head/Neck of an opponent. Mr. Hansen will be issued a fine for this action.

  • Oriol Rosell (ORL) will be issued a fine for instigating and escalating a mass confrontation

  • Zack Steffen (CLB) will be issued a fine for instigating and escalating a mass confrontation

It is the Committee’s unanimous decision that Cristian Higuita has been found in violation of the Bench Behavior policy. Mr. Higuita will be issued an Official Warning for this action.

Additional Policy Violations

 

07.21.18 CLB-ORL Bench Behavior 86/88/92min

A Bench Behavior violation was observed on several occasions and involving several staff members and players from ORL. A player was disciplined by the Disciplinary Committee.  Further sanctions are pending an investigation.

 

 

07.21.18 SEA-VAN Forrest Interacting with Match Officials at Halftime

VAN Assistant Coach, Gordon Forrest, violated the Interacting with Match Officials at Halftime Policy and will be disciplined according to the Competition Manual guidelines.

07.21.18 MIN-LAFC Personnel Communication Device

An unidentified individual was using a cell phone in the technical area.  An identification of the individual and confirmation of whether the individual entered the locker room at any point is necessary for the League Office to pursue further.

 

07.21.18 COL-RSL Petke Suspended Player/Coach Policy

RSL Head Coach, Mike Petke, was observed in violation of the Suspended Player/Coach Policy and will be disciplined accordingly.

 

07.21.18 COL-RSL Silva Suspended Player Policy

RSL player, Silva, was observed in violation of the Suspended Player Policy.  Without corroborating evidence and/or an image, the allegation cannot be pursued further.

07.21.18 POR-MTL Bench Behavior 66min

MTL Bench was observed in violation of the Bench Behavior Policy.  Assistant Coaches, Joel Bats and Wilfried Nancy, were identified, as well as Head Coach, Remi Garde.  The Head Coach was dismissed.  The assistant coaches’ behavior is pending further investigation.
