02.26.22 PHI-MIN

Ball Retriever Violation 4min

After the ball went out of bounds for a PHI throw-in near the PHI bench, PHI Head Coach Curtin grabbed a ball from a ball stand slightly outside the technical area and threw it to PHI #15 Mbaizo. PHI will receive an Official Warning for their first violation of the policy.

Based on repeated issues with ball retrieval and ball stands, the Match Director reminded PHI Operations that (a) only players on the field can access the ball stand ball and no other person should deliver a ball directly to the players or the field and (b) both bench-side ball stands on both sides of midfield should be moved five yards toward the corner flags to better comply with Competition Guidelines, cover the area more sufficiently, and mitigate further issues. Noted to MLS Operations.

After the match, the 4th Official, Broadley, indicated that the VAR did not have a walkie talkie at the beginning of the match to communicate with the walkie talkie stationed at the 4th Official's table. At some point during the first half, the VAR received a walkie talkie to remedy the issue. Noted to PRO & MLS Operations.

The WBGT was not available. Noted to MLS Operations.

02.26.22 POR-NE

The DMR Platform failed to automatically disseminate the Official Match Roster to all stakeholders sixty minutes prior to kick-off. Redundancy procedures ensued, including the sharing of digital and paper roster selections in-stadium between Match Officials, Clubs, and the Match Director. External stakeholders were reminded to use the public Viewer Page for access to the roster selections. Additionally, a copy of the roster was sent by the Match Director to the League Office for dissemination to all external stakeholders.

There was no memory card in the Audio Recording Device. Noted to MLS Operations.

In the 3rd minute, before a thrown-in restart, the VMD gets access to one of the ball stands located on front of the 4th official, retrieves, and delivers the ball directly to a player. Noted to MLS Medical.

Ball Retriever Violation 14min

Before a corner kick in the 14th minute, a ball retriever returns the ball directly to a player.

02.26.22 ORL-MTL

Competition received a call from the Match Director on behalf of the ORL Field Manager, Matt Moore, indicating that two widespread incidents of the “Fan Chant” occurred midway through the first half (22nd minute) and at the end of the first half resulting in PA Announcements warning the fans to stop the chant. The Field Manager indicated that he was not familiar with the 3-Step Protocol in these instances and was hoping for some clarification. The 3-Step Protocol was described, but also included the option to remain at a step if there was a wide range of time between incidents. The Match Officials were reminded of the protocol by the Match Director as well. The details of the call were put into the CMT Slack Channel so that Unified Command could support the Field Manager and all other stakeholders would be aware of the concern as it was understood at the time. It was then confirmed by Operations and the Match Director that the “Fan Chant” that was being described was YSA, not the P-Chant. Competition informed the Match Director that the protocol does not apply for YSA and the Match Director informed the Match Officials.

02.27.26 SEA-NSH

There was no ball stand in front of the 4th Official’s Table during the first half. The Match Director was notified and asked SEA Operations to rectify which they did for the second half. Noted to MLS Operations.
